'We can stop the interview' - Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp loses his cool with Sky reporter after Everton draw

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was involved in a heated interview with Sky Sports as his side failed to make their most of their chances in a 1-1 draw against local rivals Everton at Anfield.

Despite dominating possession and created a succession of chances, a late penalty conceded by defender Dejan Lovren for a foul on Dominic Calvert-Lewin handed Wayne Rooney the chance to draw his side level from the spot and he duly snatched a point for Everton.

Klopp was convinced Lovren’s challenge was not worthy of a penalty and refused to criticise Lovren for his role in the incident, as he lost his cool with Sky’s reporter.
"Lovren doesn’t make a challenge. Calvert-Lewin makes a step, the hand is on the back," was his assessment of the incident. "If you think it is a penalty say so. Does my opinion change anything?

"I don’t understand why the ref is doing that (give the penalty). Only one team is trying over 95 minutes to win it. The other team are not in our box and didn’t have a shot on target apart from the penalty. Then you open the door for them like this.

Don’t blame Dejan Lovren. He didn’t make the challenge."

Klopp then asked the interviewer if he thought the decision was correct and the Sky reporter responded by stating it was ‘soft’ but was a penalty.
The Liverpool boos responded with a booming laugh and then stated: “Then we can stop the interview. I only want to speak to people with a little bit of understanding about football.

"If other people say they are right, then I must be wrong. Obviously I am not in the mood to answer questions."
To his credit, Klopp concluded the interview by apologising to the Sky interviewer, but his convinction that his team had suffered an injustice continued into his press conference with the written media, as he asked them for a show of hands on whether they believed the penalty decision was correct, with most hands going up.

"I don’t think it was a penalty," stated Klopp. "I’m very frustrated. I thought we did everything to win the game. The attitude of the boys was outstanding, spot on, ready for everything, playing football against a deep, deep defending team.

"Our performance was good. We didn’t score often enough. I saw only one team playing, but the referee thought he had to make it a little more….I can’t believe the situation with all the challenges. We were clean and didn’t make any fouls.

"There is always one nasty one (Gylfi) Sigurdsson made that. A clear red card. You see the picture of the penalty. Calvert-Lewin is smart, but it is nothing. It is a penalty and one team can celebrate and we can’t."
